The Attorney General of the Federation: An Umpire With a Stain?

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Abayomi Ojo-Segun has lambasted the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice for his alleged role in wrongly interpreting the February 10 Appeal Court Judgment on Osun Local Government Election.

Ojo-Segun who expressed disappointment in Chief Fagbemi's alleged display of political bias in the illegal occupation of Osun local government council Secretariats by APC sacked politicians said Chief Fagbemi didn't do well as a supposed father of all, if truly he made such interpretation in his capacity as Attorney General of the Federation.


In his statement, which was made available to the media wrote "Chief Later Fagbemi, SAN, the Nigerian Attorney General of the Federation and former Counsel to the defeated Ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has not only depicted the bias status he is running as CJN but also put the credibility of the law and legal profession in Nigeria into avoidable jeopardy."

"Chief Fagbemi, SÀN, in his subjective interpretation of the wrongly implied meaning of the February 10, 2025 Appeal Court Judgment on Osun local government Yes/No election has cast too much doubt on his credibility as a legal icon."

"If the AGF can deliberately give a biased opinion on an issue between two political parties in a country he is expected to play the role of an umpire, one wonders why and how deep the Judiciary in Nigeria has nose dived under this Tinubu's regime which Chief Fagbemi is expectedly supposed to be counselling, advising, directing and ensuring that it doesn't go out of the way in making Nigerians trust the judicial system."

"If the former Governor of Osun State, H.E. Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola demonstrated absolute ignorance by surreptitiously inciting the masses of Osun into anarchy as an 'unlearned' literate person, (as my lawyer friends address those of us who are not lawyers) I'm more disappointed in Chief Fagbemi, SAN, who concomitantly descended so low unexpectedly into defending ignorance of an accidental Ex-Governor, H.E., Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola by interpreting the unambiguous Appeal Court judgment upsidedown. It's so embarrassing and disappointing for him to have openly shown the world how unreliable the number one law officer of the giant of Africa has been."

"Chief Fagbemi, SAN, should be sanctioned by the Nigerian Bar Association for splashing mud on their garment of fame and honour by going the wrong route of the desperate application of self-help by the Osun APC politicians who behaved like 'miscreants' who have completely lost fame, support and credibility from the people of the State."

"The credible gentlemen of Nigerian Bar and Bench need to come out clean and chastise Chief Fagbemi for adding salt upon injury of the legal profession which is being mischievously misconceived as a compromised body of professionals with the attitude of the ilks of Chief Fagbemi who was stammering on simple analysis of a very clear statement of the Court of Appeal."


"However, we, the citizens of Osun State will not use the corrupt tendencies displayed by Chief Fagbemi to erroneously judge our noble gentlemen of the Bar and Bench that have always stood their grounds in the law Court, even in the face of provocation, to always defend the nation and her citizens meritoriously in their chosen profession."

"Osun is resolute in her rejection of men of criminal minds who populate APC as currently constituted in the state, majority of whom are based outside the State and they have vowed never to allow unscrupulous elements within the judiciary to hijack governance through the illegally constituted Court processes again. Never again." 

"Finally our lawyers and judges across the country need to assure Nigerians, particularly on the Osun man-made imbroglio that they are committed to the truth and ready to defend it without bias or stint of political colouration."
