LG Crisis: PDP Chieftain Faults Oyetola's Silence, Calls For Urgent Resolution.

Osogbo, December 24, 2025

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Mr Funmiso Babarinde, has questioned the silence of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, on the crisis rocking local government administration in the state.

In an open letter to the former Governor of the state, Babarinde alleged that Oyetola seems not to be bothered about the crises, noting that the situation does not portray the Minister as an elder statesman whose role is to mediate and resolve issues in Osun irrespective of party colouration.

The letter read in part, "Your Excellency, I respectfully salute you as a leader, former governor of our dear state and current minister representing Osun state in the federal cabinet.

I have been bothered personally in the last ten (10) months by your cold silence on the intractable crises that have engulfed the third-tier government level in Osun, the Local government debacle that has grounded governance and development at the grassroots level.

"I have waited for your public intervention to no avail, and Your Excellency, as the sitting Governor, when the Election that ushered in the Yes or No chairmen was conducted over three years by the then OSSIEC, you seem not to be bothered about the crises, which to me does not portray you as an elder statesman whose role is to mediate and resolve issues in Osun, irrespective of party colouration or sentiments, as the leader representing our state in Abuja.

"I don't want to be part of the Osun populace that believed you're the masquerade behind the crises in a bid to cripple the present government and make it unsuccessful so that your own party can stage a comeback come next election, which to me is bad politics.

The security cover for the Yes or No chairmen through the office of the IG, and the non-clarity and implementation of most of the judicial pronouncements through the office of the Attorney General are all linked to your "behind-the-scenes" intervention and backing. The heavy financial support for the Yes or No chairmen, too, was linked to your sponsorship to sustain the crises at the grassroots towards the 2026 election.

"I honestly don't want to give in to all the shenanigans because in politics we all agree all is fair in political war in which this particular crises has been classified by politicians but to Osun people, it's like you deliberately support what will cripple development at the grassroot level and I so much trust your coming out clean and speaking to all these issues will not only resolve the crises but further shows your true love to Osun and its all round development. The earlier the issues are resolved the better for your political leaning and that of your Principal."

The letter urged Oyetola to come out clean on the matter and ensure the issue is resolved.
"In the spirit of the yuletide and as a gift to the Osun masses, Hon Minister Oyetola, kindly speak to the Osun people and make sure this issue is resolved, and governance is allowed at the local government level. You have the wherewithal and capacity to do it, and failure to use this crisis to make history and become a hero will not go down well with the Osun people and it will only confirm the hearsay that you're not in love with the Osun people, especially at the grassroots.

"Once again, Sir Your Excellency, the time to speak without proxy is now.... I'll wait till before the end of the year to hear from you. God be with you and the whole family. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance sir," the letter concluded.
